Tesserae is a new online art publication focused on creating a platform for emerging art historians, writers, and artists to publish their research, experiences, interpretations, criticisms, statements, and more. Currently, Tesserae does not place particular emphasis on a particular period, medium, or location to provide space for the widest range of creative voices in the face of pandemic-induced and pre-existing art world challenges. The publication embraces interdisciplinary, global, anachronistic, and experimental approaches towards art & art history.

Tesserae is currently seeking submissions for short-form articles of original scholarship. We welcome this in all forms, including artist interviews, exhibition reviews, creative nonfiction, poetry, artist statements, book reviews, and more. Although we follow the Chicago-Turabian style for image captions and endnotes (when needed), a wide variety of creative formats are encouraged. All submissions will be peer-reviewed by our editors.

Submissions must not be previously published, including on social media accounts or personal websites, and must not be under review for publication elsewhere. Submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis. If a submission is selected, we will notify you to navigate image copyrights & confirm a publishing date.
